Inner Wisdom as a Spiritual Tool | Friday Food

Inner wisdom as a spiritual tool is wisdom that comes from what we sense or feel in our heart and what we know in our mind.  We live in a “fact” filled world.  These “facts” come to us in a multitude of ways.  They can be confusing and we have learned that they can have a “spin” on them in order that we might come to a desired way of thinking.  That desired way of thinking does not always have the our best interest as a priority.

Inner WisdomInner Wisdom

Inner wisdom as a spiritual tool has to be cultivated because we have been taught to make logical, rational decisions based primarily on facts.  This decision making method has served us well but all great thinkers know that there is more to any given situation than just the facts.  In order to discern more fully, we have to check in with our heart.  What is our heart saying on any given matter?

When our heart is in conflict, or doubtful about what we know in our brains, we usually feel it in our gut.  There is a sense that there is more to a situation than meets the eye.  Sometimes it feels like doubt and sometimes, if we follow our heart, it can feel foolish, fearful and overwhelming.  When we consider all that we know in our heads, without considering what our heart knows, we end up stuck, or worse yet, in a cycle of life depletion.  Inner wisdom as a spiritual tool helps us make more informed decisions about our lives

Nourishing Inner Wisdom

So, how do we nourish this inner wisdom?  First, we have to acknowledge that this inner wisdom is in us and readily available to us.  Second, we must learn to listen to this inner wisdom and not be distracted by the “facts” from our brain.   Brain facts are important.  But we also have to learn to include what we know in our heart with the information in our brain.  Meditation and prayer are good ways to learn to listen with our heart.  Another way is by simply noticing what is going on around us without blame or judgement.  Our inner wisdom is also nurtured by breathing peace, cleansing/drinking in joy, and taking in love.  When we do these things our spirit is safe, nurtured and empowered.  When we are spiritually safe, nurtured and empowered, we are living in a life nurturing environment rather than a life depleting environment.
