John 1: 19-22
This is the testimony given by John when the Jews sent priets and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, “Who are you?” He conessed and did not deny it but confesessed, “I am not the Messiah.” And they asked him, “What then? Are you Elijah?” He said, “I am not.” Are you the prophet?” He answered “no.” Then they said to him, “Who are you? Let us have an answer for those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?”
Who are we?
Do you know why you are here?
Have you come to earth to keep the status quo?
Or are we a voice crying in the wilderness?
What is it that we do each to to prepare the way for God
In our own lives
and in the lives of others?
Do we keep our hearts open for God?
Do we hear the still mall voice within?
Dow we hear the heavenly choirs among us?
If God is Emmanuel, God with us,
How do we know it?
How do we show it?
How does our life reflect this presence of the one call Emmanuel – God with us?
The world is curious about Emmanuel,
This Jesus
This God with us.
The religious of the world are even confused about Jesus.
Political forces call upon his name
And say they are on his side.
Is this political witness to be believed?
Are we to believe the religious witness?
Can we believe our own witness of Jesus?
Or are we silent and confused
about whe we are and why we are here
and the one called Emmanuel
God with us.
John was Clear.
John came proclaiming the aAdvent of a new age, the presence of Jesus among us.
Advent is a good time to ponder who we are and why we are here. And how dow we share with others the one we call Emmanuel, God with us.
