Welcome to Friday Food!  A little bit of food for your soul…every Friday.  For the next few months, we are looking at “Downloads from Heaven”.  In these “downloads” we are contemplating what it would be like if we got a message from God (however you understand God).  We will be exploring messages from God about pain and suffering and healing and blessing and love and peace other topics too!  When you read these “downloads” you will notice that they are in quotes.  This is to help you think from your heart NOT your head.  Don’t get caught up in whether or not God, (however you understand God) actually said these things.  Just let them speak to your heart.  I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments below.  Here is today’s download:

Listen to Me and For Me

Listen to me and for me“Listen to me and listen for me.  To be obedient means to listen, to hear.  Listen to me and listen for me.  What you hear may surprise you.  If you are listening for a call to some sort of action, you may hear that.  You will also hear me calling you to face areas of your life that need healing.  This may look completely different from what you imagine as some high calling.  Your obedience may also include loving your enemy, forgiving your neighbor or taking a trip you’ve always wanted to take.  Choosing to take that trip may require you to face some demons and be healed.  The first step to obedience may be a far cry from what you think I want you to do.  But the first step is to listen.  Be still and listen for my love and be prepared to be surprised.  I love you.”

When we listen to God (however you understand God) and for God, we are filtering through many life experiences, our psychological makeup, our wounds, our successes, all kinds of family history and many other filters.  These have an effect on what we hear not just from God but from other people.  These filters affect how we see and respond to the world.  God wants to make sure our filters are working well so that we may not be distracted by our filters when God comes to us.  It is hard to live our authentic, purposeful life if our filters are clouding what we see.  So, very often God speaks to us about clearing up our filters, getting us healed and doing what is necessary to be full of love.  Whatever we do, God wants it to be full of love.  Think about the times you have done things from the perspective of love and how they are different from things you did motivated by your own desires.  Let me know your thoughts in the comments below.

  1. Listening without getting what I hear colored by my own pre-judgements is lifelong homework. Trying and failing, trying again and sometimes success.
